AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Following the case of 267 missing holy saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Dr. Eshar Singh will now take up the role of the main investigator while additional members have joined the investigation panel initiated by SGPC appointed acting Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Harpreet Singh.

Namely, Dr. Esher Singh (Advocate) from Telangana will be taking over as the prime investigator in place of Bibi Navita Singh (retired Judge) from Punjab and Haryana High Court. In addition, Advocate Bibi Harpreet Kaur (Punjab and Haryana High Court) and Bibi Harleen Kaur (C.A.) will be joining the panel.

The investigation panel was formed after a request by the SGPC to Giani Harpreet Singh to form the panel comprising of Sikh judges.

Earlier, Bibi Navita Singh, a retired judge of the Punjab and Haryana high court was asked to lead the investigations, however, due to family commitments, she has asked for herself to be relieved from the panel, while Dr. Esher Singh, who was her assistant, is now going to lead the investigations.

Akal Takht Secretariat official Jaspal Singh informed Sikh24 that all the record about holy saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji from April 1, 2015 to till date has been sealed so investigations can take place.

It is noteworthy here that the SGPC has already shifted the publication and binding wing officials and staff members, including supervisors, secretary, deputy secretary and additional secretary, so that the inquiry is not influenced.

It is pertinent to note here that 267 saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji have been found missing from the SGPC’s publication department. The incident came to fore when assistant supervisor Kanwaljit Singh got retired in May this year.

Kanwaljit Singh has claimed that he was forced to issue holy saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji without making entries in the record books. He has also claimed that more than 80 holy saroops got burnt in fire incident occurred at Gurdwara Ramsar Sahib in May-2016 while the SGPC disclosed damage of only 14.

However, the SGPC is accusing Kanwaljit Singh of negligence in his duties, but the SGPC’s accusation comes under suspicion because the latter is ready to let go Kanwaljit Singh just by recovering the cost of missing saroops.
