Rousing welcome accorded to new members by party top brass
CHANDIGARH: Renowned Punjabi singer, lyricist and music composer Gagandeep Kaur Maan, Anmol GaganMaan to legions of her fans across the globe, joined the Aam Aadmi Party here on Monday, giving a big push to the party.
On the occasion, Akali Dal (Badal) got a severe jolt when prominent leader of Fatehgarh Sahib district Aajay Singh Libra joined the party along with his supporters. Another prominent leader and state treasurer of the Revolutionary Marxist Party of India (RMPI) hailing from Bhoa assembly constituency in Pathankot. The other prominent face of Gurdaspur area Lal Chand Katruchak, also entered the party fold.
At a press conference held in Chandigarh on Monday, party state president and MP Bhagwant Mann, in-charge (Punjab affairs) and MLA from Delhi Jarnail Singh and Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema formally inducted Anmol Gagan Mann, Ajay Singh Libra and Lal Chand Katruchak into the party. Others present on the occasion were Youth Leader and party MLA Meet Hayer, in charge (Organization) and Core Committee Member Gerry Birring and Political Review Committee Chairman Harchand Singh Bursat.
Interacting with the media, Bhagwant Mann said that having eminent personalities with clean images would, besides strengthening the party, would also boost the morale of those waging a grim battle against the Captain-Badal sponsored ‘mafia rule’ in the state.
Mann said that more eminent personalities from various spectrums, who wanted to make Punjab a prosperous state again, were likely to join the Aam Aadmi Party in the coming days, adding that those who were joining the party without personal aspirations, ambitions, and working for restoration of the lost glory of Punjab state, would be accorded rousing welcome.
Gagandeep Kaur Mann, who won the coveted title of Miss Mohali Punjaban from the Miss World Punjab pageant and the World Folk Dance pageant held in London, shot to fame in the field of singing. An author of a book titled ‘How to Become a Real Man’, Anmol Gagan Mann said that she decided to enter politics without any greed for power rather her unflagging desire to stem the rot plaguing the society, for which there was no other party than the Aam Aadmi Party.
Ajay Singh Libra said that he decided to join the AAP because he was not satisfied with the functioning of the Akali Dal (Badal) as it focussed more on promoting familial politics, while the Aam Aadmi Party had propounded a new kind of politics – the politics of performance, replicated by the Delhi government under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, who was installed chief minister of the capital city Delhi, third time in a row.
On the occasion Lal Chand Katruchak said that at present Aam Aadmi Party was the only hope for the country to regain its lost glory and grandeur. Lal Chand Katruchak had been a Democratic Alliance candidate from the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha elections in 2019 and has been the Sarpanch of his village for 25 years.
